Licensure & Advocacy
Oklahoma citizens deserve the right and freedom to pursue naturopathic treatment. They should also be afforded protection, assurance and the peace of mind that their provider has achieved established education and medical training standards. Licensure means professional medical standards must be met. At this time Oklahoma is not a licensed state for naturopathic medicine
You can help! You can help achieve licensure for naturopathic medicine in the state of Oklahoma by speaking up.

Currently, 17 states, the District of Columbia, and the United States territories of Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands have licensing or regulation laws for naturopathic doctors. In these states, naturopathic doctors are required to graduate from an accredited four-year residential naturopathic medical school and pass an extensive postdoctoral board examination (NPLEX) in order to receive a license*. Our members hold their medical license in a state that licenses naturopathic physicians and they practice with specific restrictions in the state of Oklahoma, since Oklahoma is not currently a licensed state. Licensed naturopathic physicians must fulfill state-mandated continuing education requirements annually, and will have a specific scope of practice defined by their state's law. *From the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians |
